Welcome to Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area's Summer Camp...
Welcome to Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area's Summer Camp where students will be emersed in Yuma's rich riverfront history through interactive, hands-on STEM-based activities. Below is a breakdown of the weekly June (Tuesday - Thursday) schedules. Register for one week, two weeks or all three! Check-in daily at 8:30 am at the Colorado River State Historic Park. All participants MUST be picked up by 12:30 pm. Healthy snacks will be provided (NO LUNCH).
Camp Week #1 - June 3rd - 5th : Participants will learn the significance and history of the Colorado River State Historic Park through Siphon building, creating their own dam model and learning Morse code to send telegraph messages. Tours of park grounds, art projects and educational games will be included in daily activities.
Camp Week #2 - June 10th - 12th : Participants will become experts on local Yuma East Wetlands Wildlife through our native snake encounter(possible program educator pet meet and greet), a closer look into the importance of our local pollinators, and the study of invertebrates from the Colorado River under a microscope. All of these activities educate the students on the importance of a healthy environment and the role they play in its sustainability. Daily activities will include tours of the park grounds, team building, arts and crafts and educational games.
Camp Week #3 - June 17th - 19th : Participants will be immersed in the history of the Yuma Territorial Prison through our Interactive video series that unlocks the secrets of this iconic landmark and local legends. Participants will be challenged with an escape room like activity where they will learn to problem solve in a group setting, uncover the hardships of prison life and much more. Daily activities will include tours of the park grounds, arts and crafts and educational games.
